Protection against neuronal damage using 3-hydroxy-7 -hydroxy steroids and 3-oxo-7 -hydroxy steroids

3-Hydroxy-7. b. -hydroxy steroids and 3-oxo-7. b. -hydroxy steroids and pharmaceutically acceptable esters thereof are used for protection against neuronal damage. Such steroids include 7. b. -hydroxyepiandrosterone, 7. b. -hydroxydehydroepiandrosterone, 7. b. -hydroxy-17. b. -oestradiol, 7. b. -hydroxypregnenolone and 7. b. -hydroxyoestrone. The neuronal damage may be that caused by Alzheimer's Disease, Parkinson's Disease, Cognitive Impairment No Dementia, stroke, brain trauma, spinal cord injury or peripheral nerve injury.
