PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problems that there is a difference between the fluctuation of a commercial power supply voltage and that of actual power consumption and it is difficult to improve controlling accuracy in a vacuum cleaner for controlling power corresponding to the power consumption of a fan motor. SOLUTION: This vacuum cleaner is provided with the fan motor 2 for generating suction force with a commercial power source 12 as a power source, a current detection means 8 for detecting the load current of the fan motor 2, a voltage detection means 13 for detecting a voltage applied to the fan motor 2 and a microcomputer 9 for calculating the power consumption from signals from the current detection means 8 and the signals from the voltage detection means 13 and controlling the phase of the fan motor 2. By performing detection by the phase angle of large fluctuation for the voltage detection of the voltage detection means 13 when the fan motor 2 is operated, the judgment accuracy of the voltage detection is improved and the power is controlled.
