PURPOSE: A start current control method of a compressor is provided to keep the optimum start current regular by sensing start voltage of a compressor with a current-sensing resistor and controlling the phase-controlled value of a current limit unit if the start voltage exceeds a normal level. CONSTITUTION: A main control unit and a microcomputer are initialized if power is supplied(S1). A compressor driving unit outputs a signal for driving a compressor(S2). The microcomputer calculates phase-controlled value according to the driving voltage from a power supply(S3). A current limit unit generates start current for a main line of the compressor(S4). A current-sensing resistor outputs the start current to the microcomputer(S5). The microcomputer calculates start voltage(Vs) by multiplying the start current by resistance(R) of the resistor(S6). If the start voltage is higher than first reference voltage(V1), the microcomputer stops the compressor immediately(S7,S8). Otherwise, the microcomputer compares the start voltage with second reference voltage(V2) and reduces initial phase-controlled value(S9,S10). Thereby, the optimum start current is kept.
