PURPOSE: A method for extending a subscriber ID and a method for certifying the ID are provided to perform a log-in process using one ID in a wide area network unified through a cooperation and to use a service of other affiliated site without an additional joining process. CONSTITUTION: If a user connects to an affiliated site and inputs an ID and a password, the site judges whether the ID is a local ID or not. If the ID is a local ID, a certified result(approval or fail of a log-in) is notified to the user. If the ID is not a local ID, the site transmits the ID and the password to a certifying gateway for requesting a certification. The certifying gateway analyzes an ID and judges whether the ID is a wide area ID. If the ID is a wide area ID, the gateway searches a wide area ID DB and notifies a certified result to a certification requesting site, and the certification requesting site notifies the certified result to the user. If the ID is not a wide area ID, the gateway searches an extension DB and judges whether the ID is a valid ID. If the ID is a valid ID, the ID and the password are transmitted to a site corresponded to an extension and requests a remote certification. A remote certifying site checks whether the ID is an extension of the site. If the ID is an extension of the site, the site searches a local ID DB and transmits a certified result to the certifying gateway and the certification requesting site. The certification requesting site notifies the certified result to the user.
