PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device for drying sludge which can perform sure sludge drying operation by judging change of sludge properties, lowering of heat transfer efficiency of a sludge drier and lowering of performance of a sludge supply pump or the like in advance. SOLUTION: The sludge drier is provided with a heat transfer barrel 2a into which the sludge from the sludge supply pump 1 is charged, a main axis 10 in the heat transfer barrel 2a and a jacket 9 which is provided outside the heat transfer barrel 2a and forms a steam space 9a between the heat transfer barrel 2a and itself. Steam supplied into the jacket 9 from a steam entrance 23 condenses to drain in the jacket 9 and is exhausted from a drain exhaust port 24 as drain. A drain flow meter 14 is provided at the drain exhaust port 24 and a motor 25 for the main axis 10 and the sludge supply pump 1 are controlled by a controller 7 based on signals from the drain flow meter 14.
