PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a green tea composition prevented from oxidation and discoloration, keeping green color and capable of fully exerting the pharmacological effect of catechin through including it at high levels, and to provide a method for producing the above composition. SOLUTION: This composition is obtained by formulating 100 pts.wt. of green tea leaves with 0.01-30 pt(s).wt. of trehalose. The other objective method for producing the above composition involves producing green tea by heating treatment of raw tea leaves followed by drying and then granulating the resultant tea leaves. The method is characterized by further involving the following step: prior to, simultaneously with or after the above heating treatment, the raw tea leaves are contacted with the trehalose.
