PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a transition metal complex giving an olefin polymer having high stereoregularity, high melting point, high molecular weight and excellent moldability by injection molding, etc., and provide a catalyst forα-olefin polymerization and a method for the polymerization ofα-olefin. SOLUTION: The new transition metal compound is expressed by general formula (I) (R1, R2, R4 and R5 are each H, a 1-10C hydrocarbon group or the like; R3 and R6 are each a 3-10C saturated or unsaturated bivalent hydrocarbon group; at least one of R7 and R8 is a 9-30C silylated aryl; (m) and (n) are each an integer of 0-20; Q is a 1-20C bivalent hydrocarbon group, silylene group, oligosilylene group or germinylene group; X and Y are each H, a halogen, a 1-20C hydrocarbon group or the like; and M is a transition metal of group 4-6 of the periodic table).
