PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a denitration apparatus and method for denitrating nitrogen oxide low in concentration in exhaust gas filling, for example, a tunnel. SOLUTION: The denitration apparatus is equipped with a tunnel denitration apparatus 13 provided in a bypass passage 12 introducing nitrogen oxide- containing exhaust gas in the tunnel 10 and again returning the same to the tunnel, an NO densitometer 14 for measuring nitrogen monoxide (NO) on the inlet side of the tunnel denitration apparatus 13, a NO.NO2 densitometer 15 for measuring nitrogen oxide (NO) and nitrogen dioxide on the outlet side of the tunnel denitration apparatus 13 and a fan 16 introducing the exhaust gas 11 in the tunnel 10 into the bypass passage 12 to discharge the same from the bypass passage 12.
