PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To check the wear of a handrail with a simple device. SOLUTION: The thickness of the handrail is checked with a scale by placing the handrail within a railing into a notch by using a detector in which two flat plates having the notch overlap and the scale is movably inserted therebetween.
