PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novel water-soluble dye and the molecular adduct for in-vivo diagnosis by near infrared radiation (NIR radiation) having specific photphysical and pharmachemical properties as a shadowing agent for fluorescence and transillumination diagnosis, and to provide a diagnostic agent containing the dye. SOLUTION: The dye is a cyanine dye of formula V and a pharmaceutical agent for in-vivo diagnosis contains the dye. For example, the dye is exemplified by the following compound: 5-[2-[(1,2-dicarboxyethyl)amino]-2-oxoethyl]-2 [7-[5-[2-(1,2-dicarboxyethyl) amino]-2-oxoethyl]-1,3-dihydro-3,3 dimethyl-1-(4- sulfobutyl)-2H-indole-2-iridene]-1,3,5-heptatrienyl]-3, 3-dimethyl-1-(4-sulfobutyl)-3H- indolium.
