PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a medium enabling the simple determination of E.coli group in high reliability, the simultaneous determination of E.coli group and the number of viable bacteria and the quick discrimination of E.coli group. SOLUTION: The medium for the examination of viable bacteria contains aβ-galactosidase color-developing substrate, an alanine aminopeptidase color- developing substrate and their enzyme-deriving substrates.
