PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of making a thermal head capable of obtaining a thermal head having rounds at corners on the top faces of a pair of electrodes to be connected to both ends of a heating element. SOLUTION: There is disclosed the thermal head which is so constituted that the heating element 3 consisting of a resistor layer 3a and the pair of electrodes 4, 4 consisting of a metallic layer 4a are provided on a substrate 1. The heating element 3 and the pair of electrodes 4, 4 are formed from a process wherein the resistor layer 3a and the metallic layer 4a are sequentially applied on the substrate 1, a process wherein a part of the metallic layer 4a is cut from the upper face to the intermediate position in the depth direction to form a recessed section 4b and a process wherein an inner face of the recessed section of the metallic layer 4a the upper face of the metallic layer at the periphery of the recessed section and the corner sections disposed between them are etched at the same time to remove a part of the metallic layer 4a so that the heating element 3 is formed at a portion just beneath the recessed section 4b and the pair of electrodes 4, 4 each having the round R at the corner of the top face are formed at the both sides of the heating element 3.
