PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an exhaust gas cleaning catalyst exce lent in low temperature activity and high temperature durability. SOLUTION: In the exhaust gas cleaning catalyst wherein a first coating layer is formed on a heat-resistant support carrier and a second coating layer is formed on the first coating layer, the first coating layer contains alumina on which palladium is supported and the second coating layer contains Ce-Zr type composite oxide on which platinum and rhodium are supported in a coexisting state and a Zr-Ce type composite oxide on which platinum and rhodium are carried in a coexisting state, different from this composite oxide in composition.
