PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control device for feeding means, further improving the accuracy of the uppermost level of a sheet stack to be fed to a printing machine or others. SOLUTION: The control device comprises a lifting mechanism 1, sheet inserting means, means for detecting the front-side uppermost level of the stack 4, connected to a computer 37 operating on a motor 11 for the stack lifting mechanism, and means for moving the stack up corresponding to the upper position. A front-side level detector 32 for the stack has means for measuring the changing degree of the level of the stack. The output of the computer is joined to at least one frequency varying means 42 for controlling one or more motors, and the computer is designed so that a value for a signal appearing at its output characterizes a difference between the measured level of the stack and the level calculated based on a nominal thickness and a supply frequency.
