PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an orphan receptor useful for isolating a molecule for treating diseases such as prostatic cancer, benign prostatic hyperplasia, osteoporosis or cardiovascular disease, etc., and for testing a substance in terms of influences of estrogen and other hormones. SOLUTION: This orphan receptor is concerned with a new estrogen/receptor- related nuclear receptor termed 'ERβ' containing substantially the same amino acid sequence as that of a specific amino acid sequence derived from a rat or an amino acid sequence functionally similar to the amino acid sequence. The DNA sequence encoding the receptor is obtained. |
