PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a dihydroanthracene derivative having an arbitrary substituent introduced into the center ring of 9,10-dihydroanthracene. SOLUTION: A dihydroanthracene derivative of formula (I) or a dihydroanthracene derivative of formula (IV) is manufactured by using dihydroanthracene of formula (II), wherein, R1 to R8 are each independently identical to or different from each other, and each a hydrocarbon group or the like; A is a hydrocarbon group or the like; and X is a leaving group.
