PURPOSE: A control method of an air compressor is provided to efficiently and smoothly control drive of the air compressor and to keep pressure of the air compressor regular. CONSTITUTION: An air compressor compresses air while being operated, and supplies the compressed air into a main air tank through tube(S1). Lubricating oil temperature in the air compressor is detected by a temperature-detecting sensor(S2). If the detected temperature is not higher than the predetermined temperature of a controller, the pressure of the air compressor stored in the main air tank is detected by a pressure-detecting sensor. If the pressure of the compressed air in the main air tank is over the lowest pressure(Q1) predetermined to the controller, the air compressor is operated by lowering the frequency(S6). If the pressure of compressed air of the main air tank is over the predetermined maximum pressure(Q2) predetermined to the controller, the air compressor is operated at the lowest rpm and the compressed air in the main air tank is discharged into the air. If the pressure of the compressed air of the main air tank is over the air compressor drive stop pressure(Q3) predetermined to the controller, the air compressor is stopped(S12). If the pressure of the compressed air of the main air tank is not over the lowest pressure(Q1) predetermined to the controller, the motor is operated by increasing the frequency of the control signal. Thus, mechanical load is reduced and the service life of the compressor is prolonged.
