PURPOSE: A method for updating a software is provided to reduce the time and the cost for updating a file by downloading a compressed file even smaller capacity than a new version file. CONSTITUTION: A server(202) has an old version file(204) performing a specific function, creates a new version file(206) by updating the old version file(204), and stores it. The server(202) creates and stores a compressed file(208) having an offset and data compared the old version file(204) to the new version file(206) and distributes the compressed file(208) instead of distributing the new version file(206). In case that the server(202) creates the new version file(206), the server(202) creates the compressed file(208) by comparing to the old version file(204). Each client(212,214,216) downloads the compressed file(208) from the server and creates the new version file as updating it by using the old version file(204).
