PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an abnormality detection device for a battery assembly capable of surely detecting cell voltage abnormality in a battery assembly. SOLUTION: This abnormality detection device for the battery assembly detects the abnormality in the battery assembly 1 by exchanging data between a battery controller B/C and cell controllers C/C1-C/C12, and the cell controllers C/C1-C/C12 calculate a standard deviation within a module based on cell voltage of unit cells C1-C91 within modules M1-M12 every plural modules M1-M12, and the calculated standard deviation within the module is transmitted to the battery controller B/C. The battery controller B/C detects the module having an abnormal unit cell based on the received standard deviation within the module. Since the standard deviation within the module is varied large when the unit cell having abnormal cell voltage is present, the module containing the abnormal unit cell can surely be detected.
