PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problems of the occurrence of a significant temperature difference between a paper passage part region and non-paper passage part region by the temperature elevation of the non-paper passage part region, the occurrence of fixing unevenness and wrinkling at the broad sheet-like recording medium, the adhesion of the toners to a fixing roller on account of the over- melting of the toners in the segments corresponding to the non-paper passage part region of the unfixed toner image and the occurrence of the so-called hot offset to contaminate the surface of the sheet-like medium when the broad sheet-like medium is passed after the continuous passage of the narrow sheet-like medium. SOLUTION: The exothermic segment (width B) of the position offcentered from the axial center of the fixing roller 2 of a heater 1-1 and a shielding member 1-1 may be located in a first relative position proximate to each other and therefore the radiation from the heater 1-1 may be shielded in the non-paper passage part (the region of the width B) where the narrow-width paper is fixed at a ratio higher than in the paper passage part (A) when the narrow wide paper is fixed. The temperature elevation into non-paper passage part may thus be suppressed or relieved.
