PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image display device capable of displaying character information and graphics display image on a desired background image with a simple configuration. SOLUTION: A data specifying unit 3 selects front image data and background image data and specifies color control, attribute control and priority order control. The front image data and the background image data are read into a front image data selector 7 and a background image data selector 8. In an image data output circuit 5, color control of a color control circuit 10 and attribute adding of an attribute control circuit 11 are conducted for the front image data and the background image data. Based on the display priority order of a priority order control circuit 12, the front image data and the background image data are synthesized in an image synthesizing circuit 6. Thus, a selected front image is displayed on an arbitrary background image and a front image is effectively displayed on a prescribed background image in a TV electronic program guide and a web browser.
