PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a data carrier system capable of self-diagnosing the whole interrogator. SOLUTION: This data carrier system comprises a transponder means and an interrogator means communicating with a host computer. When the interrogator means approaches, the responder means wakes up and communicates with the interrogator means by microwaves. The interrogator means incorporates a simulated transponder means having the same structure as that of the transponder means and communicates with the simulated transponder means based on a self-diagnostic command or a periodic diagnostic cycle command from the host computer.
