PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a sufficient cleaning effect when sweeping a remaining high-viscous liquid developer by a cleaning member of which the cleaning face is moved. SOLUTION: This cleaning device sweeps the residual developer remaining on the surface of a photoreceptor drum carrying a toner image after the toner image developed by the developer having 100 to 10000 mPa.s viscosity is transferred to transfer paper. With respect to a cleaning roll 51 of this cleaning device, the cleaning face in contact with the remaining developer on the photoreceptor drum has many grooves 51a. When this cleaning roll is allowed to abut on the photoreceptor drum, a liquid component of the remaining developer interposed between the drum surface and the cleaning face is caught in grooves, and toner stuck to the drum surface is mechanically removed by means of projecting parts on the cleaning face.
