PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a low-cost recording medium reproducing device capable of fixing a floating state by lowering a base chassis with a small torque and crushing an elastic member. SOLUTION: This device is provided with a main body 10 for housing and reproducing a recording medium 1, a base chassis 20 supported in a floating state by an elastic member 11 in the main body 10, and having a turntable 23 and a reproducing head mounted thereon, a cartridge holder 30 supported slidably by guiding grooves 24a and 24b provided in the chassis 20, and adopted to transfer a recording medium 1 to a reproducing/non-reproducing position, and a slider 27 engaged with the cartridge holder 30 and slid by the driving force of a motor 25 transmitted through a gear train 26. By providing the guiding grooves 24a and 24b for inclining and lowering the base chassis 20 so as to crush the elastic member 11 plural times during the transfer of the recording medium 1 to the non-reproducing position, the driving loads of the motor 25 and the gear train 26 are reduced.
