PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide technology to improve a field inside a lamp envelope during a starting period for helping a break-down of inert gas. SOLUTION: The discharge lamp bulb has an envelope of light permeability and at least one conductive fiber arranged on the wall of the envelope. The fiber has a thickness of less than 100 micron. The lamp can be either with or without an electrode. As suitable materials for the fiber, carbon, silicon carbonate, aluminum, tantalum, molybdenum, platinum, tungsten are named among others. A whisker of silicon carbonate and a silicon carbonate fiber coated with platinum can also be used. The fiber had better be interfaced with electric field at least during starting period.
