PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a production method by which a glass substrate for magnetic recording medium protected from contamination can be easily and efficiently produced without carrying out ultrasonic cleaning by a multistage system or requiring acid cleaning. SOLUTION: In the method for producing a glass substrate for magnetic recording medium including disk forming, grinding, polishing and cleaning steps, the grinding step is carried out using a cooling liquid and a double-ended grinding machine obtained by sticking a sheetlike nonferrous metal bonded, resin bonded or vitrified bonded grindstone containing abrasive grains to the surface of each of the upper and lower surface plates of a double-ended grinding machine for grinding a glass substrate for a magnetic recording medium.
