PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect motion vectors of a coding information with less amount of information and thereby restrain the amount of information for the coding information of the motion vectors, when it is estimated that the motion vectors not matched to a motion of a picture are being detected, to improve the coding efficiency of a device for coding moving pictures. SOLUTION: This method for detecting motion vectors, which divides a moving picture into the predetermined blocks and detects motion vectors of the moving picture at each of their blocks, stores multiple motion vector candidates in a storage means based on the standard values for evaluating estimation error and then compares the above standard values of the stored multiple motion vector candidates with each other, selecting any motion vector candidate from the above multiple motion vector candidates, based on a signal of difference of compared value to detect it as a motion vector. |
