PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high quality picture display device at a low price by performing high resolution video signal display using a low resolution liquid crystal panel. SOLUTION: Low resolution information, which is optically synthesized by shifting additional W-pixels and the fundamental pixels of R, G, B so that they have hodgepodge arrangement using four pieces of liquid crystal panels in which W(white) pixels are added to the fundamental pixels of R, G, B, is displayed in full colors with the fundamental pixels, and high resolution information exceeding it is displayed as only brightness information with white pixels synthesized from the fundamental pixels of R, G, B and the additional W-pixels.
