PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow a terminal such as a portable telephone to utilize a position retrieving information system. SOLUTION: The system receives a retrieving request of a terminal whose position is to be retrieved from a retrieval requester's computer terminal or portable telephone connected to the Internet or a telephone line, requests the retrieval to a position retrieving system and receives position data (latitude, longitude). Nearby city/town/village names are retrieved from a prefecture/city/ town/village name data base stored in a server of the system on the basis of the received position data (latitude, longitude) and one or plural city/town names are prepared. Similarly nearby facilities names are retrieved from facilities name data base stored in the server and one or plural facilities names or the like are prepared.
