PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical disk capable of detecting an overcurrent occurring at the time of an abnormal operation, and preventing the device itself from being broken down. SOLUTION: The optical disk device of this invention is provided with an overcurrent detection and control means for detecting an overcurrent flowing at the time of an abnormal operation and performing a prescribed control. When the device detects an overcurrent flowing at the time of an abnormal operation, it returns once an objective lens of an optical head to its reference position, and also steps down the rotating speed. Thus, the optical disk device is prevented from being broken down by the overcurrent at the time of the abnormal operation.
