PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide technology capable of performing an information retrieval processing holding index capacity as constant even when data length of a character string of a variable length character string becomes long and massive. SOLUTION: This information retrieving method to perform information retrieval of variable length character string data comprises a step to extract index data corresponding to retrieval conditions from forward and backward character strings of the variable length character string data or index data to indicate the whole of the variable length character string data and to acquire a data storage position of the variable length character string data corresponding to the index data, a step to extract the variable length character string data to be indicated by the acquired data storage position and a step to compare the extracted variable length character string data with retrieved character string data and to output the variable length character string data to satisfy the retrieval conditions.
