The engine, comprising a cylinder head (21), cylinder sleeves (23) with pistons (22), connecting rods (6) and a crankshaft, has its crankshaft bearing journals (5) fitted with cams (8), allowing the compression ratio in the engine's cylinders to be varied by altering the position of the cams. Each cam is moved by a rod (35) pivoted to a slider (31) inside the engine's crankcase, actuated by a transverse threaded rod (32) connected to a turbine (26) on the outside of the engine.
