The invention relates to dimethylbenzene derivatives of general structure (I), wherein X represents a group (C=CH2) or a group CH(CH3) with the proviso that if X represents a group (C=CH2), the radical R<1> represents an alkyl radical with 1 to 10 C atoms or an alkenyl radical with 2 to 10 C atoms; and if X represents a group CH(CH3), the radical R<1> represents hydrogen, an alkyl radical with 1 to 10 C atoms which can either be saturated or unsaturated, branched or unbranched, an acyl radical with 1 to 10 C atoms, a cycloalkyl radical with 1 to 10 C atoms, or an aryl radical. Said derivatives are characterised by an interesting and original aroma characteristic with a strong emanation, and are suitable for use as aromatic substances, for example in cosmetic preparations, technical products or alcoholic perfumery.
