A fireproof sign has at least one symbol carrier and a base plate. A cover is fastened in movable fashion to a base plate. The cover can be fixed in a first position in which the cover covers at least one symbol carrier and in a second position in which it uncovers at least one symbol carrier. The cover is fastened with at least one hinge to the base plate. The cover comprises a first and a second cover plate. The cover plates are connected together with at least one hinge. The cover is fixed in the first position and the second position with the second cover plate to the base plate.
