<p>The present invention relates to novel 1β-methylcarbapenem derivatives, particularly those substituted at position 2 of carbapenem nucleus with a 5-(2'-isoxyzolylethenyl)pyrrolidin-3-ylthio group or a 5-(2'-isothiazolylethenyl)pyrrolidin-3-ylthio group and their pharmaceutically acceptable salts. The present invention also relates to process of preparation thereof and to pharmaceutical compositions of antibacterial agent comprising carbapenem derivatives of the present invention as an active ingredient. 1-g(b)-Methylcarbapenem derivatives of the present invention are stable to dehydropeptidase-I and show effective antibacterial activity against both Gram-positive bacteria and Gram-negative bacteria to be a useful antibacterial agent.
