In a solid insoluble catalyst (I) with an (in)organic support (II), to which a catalytically-active polymer (III) is fixed, (III) is a polymer of a carboxylic acid or salt with one or more polymerizable double bonds, optionally with other polymerizable material(s). An Independent claim is also included for the production of alkylene glycol by reacting alkylene oxide(s) with water in the presence of (I).
