The invention concerns a battery charger comprising an element for being connected to the apparatus to be charged by the battery. The charging parameters are variable. The connecting element (8) is removable from the charger (2), and comprises means (28, 30), such as a resistor in the connecting element, external to the charger, enabling to determine automatically the electrical parameter(s) of the charge when the apparatus is connected to the charger via the connecting element.
