Provided is the structure of an inhibitor of apoptosis protein (IAP). ANGSTROM 2.58 A crystal structure of a human survivin point mutant (L54M) determined by Multiple Wavelength Anomalous Dispersion (MAD) using the endogenously bound Zn<+2> ions is provided. Methods of using the crystal structure and atomic coordinates fo the development of IAP binding agents is also provided. In addition, the disclosure provides computer programs on computer readable medium for use in developing iAP binding agents.
