Required contours of the metal component (12) are produced in a mold (18). A cavity (20) of the mold (18) is matched to the contours of the composite (10), or else the metal component is introduced into a further mold with a cavity matching the contours of the composite. Plastic sheet (14) is inlaid into the mold. Following mold closure, plastic sheet and metal component are bonded by back injection, defining the final contours of the composite. The plastic sheet is a polymer foam.
