METHODS FOR PREPARING FERMENTABLE SUGAR FROM CELLULOSE CONTAINING RAW MATERIALS

A method is described for a process for production of fermentable sugar from cellulose-containing raw materials which are hydrolysed with an acid-containing solution, particularly comprising sulphuric acid, whereupon the acid is removed from the mixture, which after the hydrolysis mainly comprises acid, water, sugar and an insoluble lignin fraction, with an extraction agent, and possibly that the acid thereafter is separated from the extraction agent and is recycled. The method is characterised in that a mixture of a lower alcohol (C1-C4 alcohol) and a lower ketone (C3-C6 ketone) is used as extraction agent.
