PURPOSE: An IPS TFT-LCD(In Plane Switching mode Thin Film Transistor Liquid Crystal Display) is provided to improve the driving type for obtaining the floating state of common electrodes by performing storage-on gate type driving. CONSTITUTION: An IPS TFT-LCD consists of an upper substrate(40), an LC layer(50) and a lower substrate(60). The lower substrate has structure of connecting common electrodes(67n,67n-1) to gate electrodes(62n-1,62n-2) through TFTs(66n,66n-1) to isolate pixels(Pn,Pn-1). Each gate lines(62n,62n-1) crosses with data lines(61), and TFTs(63n,63n-1) for pixel electrodes are connected with the gate lines. The pixel electrodes(64n,64n-1) are connected to each side electrode of the TFTs for pixel electrodes. Gates of the TFTs(66n,66n-1) for common electrodes are connected to gate metals(65n,65n-1) drawn out of the TFT gates for pixel electrodes. The gate electrodes are connected to side electrodes of the TFTs for common electrodes while the common electrodes are connected to the other sides of the TFT. The pixel electrodes and the common electrodes are formed in comb shape by crossing each other. The common electrodes are formed in each pixel. The aperture ratio is improved for common electrode lines are not needed. In addition, the TFT-LCD is operated regularly without considering voltage jittering.
