PURPOSE: A preheating apparatus for vehicle heater is provided to achieving an improved convenience for passengers and improved heat efficiency by preheating the passenger compartment through the exhaust gas emitted from an engine during the initial operation of the vehicle. CONSTITUTION: A preheating apparatus comprises a heater core having a water coolant inlet port and a water coolant outlet port; an exhaust pipe(2) for emitting the exhaust gas generated from a vehicle engine(1); and a preheating unit(6) installed outside of the heater core installed in an engine room. The preheating unit has an inlet port(7) and an outlet port(8) connected to the exhaust pipe, such that the exhaust gas generated from the engine preheats the heater core while passing through the preheating unit. The preheating unit includes a blower installed at the inlet port side, and an evaporator, heater core and a pre-heater installed sequentially in the outlet port side, and performs a preheating operation by the exhaust gas fed through the blower.
