PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wavelength converter permitting to simplify its structure and also transmit excellent output signal light, and thereby contribute to cost reduction of an optical communication system. SOLUTION: This device is arranged to be a wavelength converter A1 comprising a 1st light source 1 for transmitting continuous light CW, a 2nd light source 2 for transmitting signal light Pin of which the wavelength is not controlled, and a wavelength conversion means 3 for modulating at least either the luminous intensity or the phase of the continuous light CW from the 1st light source 1 by the signal light P in from the 2nd light source 2 and outputting it as an output signal light Pout. Moreover, the 1st light source is comprised of a light source outputting plural wavelengths and a wavelength selection means having a wavelength selecting function, and can input continuous light of an arbitrary wavelength to a wavelength conversion means. Further, the 1st light source is comprised of a wavelength variable light source and its control means, and is able to input continuous light of an arbitrary wavelength the wavelength conversion means. |
