PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rope abnormality detector capable of automatically detecting an abnormal condition of a rope, and an elevator control device having the detector. SOLUTION: A detection arm 5 is movably arranged in the vicinity of a sheave 1 with the rope 4 stretched thereon. This detection arm 5 is pressed by the rope 4 raised from the regular position on the sheave 1 and displaced when an abnormality is generated in the rope 4. A limit switch 8 is operated by the displacement of the detection arm 5.
