PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an internal combustion engine which can be made small in size and having little vibrations, make energy of fuel efficiently convertible into turning power, use a plurality of sets of internal combustion engines, generate output in a common rotary shaft, and make a large output easily available. SOLUTION: An annular slit 1b is provided in the inner side of an annular cylinder space 1a in the inside of an annular casing 1 of a circular section, a rotating unit closing this slit by an external peripheral surface is provided, pistons 2b making a circular motion in the annular cylinder space 1a are provided, made to protrude partly into the external peripheral surface of this rotating unit, block plates 4 dividing the annular cylinder space 1a into two parts are moved forward/backward by advancing/retracting devices 4a. A jet nozzle 5 of fuel, a spark plug 7a are provided in one section adjacent to the block plate 4, an exhaust port 8 is provided in the other section, a controller 9 for controlling the advancing/retracting device 4a, an injection device 6, and an ignition device is provided, a rotary shaft 3 of the rotary unit 2 is used to serve as the output shaft.
