NEW POLYXYLOSIDE DERIVATIVE, METHOD FOR PRODUCING THE SAME AND USE AS SURFACTANT

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new compound derived from a saccharide and to provide a process for producing the compound. SOLUTION: This compound is represented by the following formula (I) RO-(X)p (I) [wherein, (p) denotes a number of 1-5; X denotes a xylose residue; and R denotes a branched alkyl group: CH(CnH2n+1)(CmH2m+1)-CH2 (wherein, (m) denotes an integer of 6-8; (n) denotes an integer of 4-18; and the sum total of n+m is >=10)]. The method for producing the compound is provided. A composition comprises the compound and use thereof as a surfactant is also provided.
