PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To machine a work accurately even when temperature of a housing or the like varies, to easily recognize and rapidly handle an abnormality such as excessive temperature rising when the abnormality occurs, and to prevent temperature variation of the housing. SOLUTION: This spindle device using a static pressure gas bearing and a static pressure magnetic composite bearing comprises a temperature measuring means 76 of the housing and an outputting means 77 corresponding to temperature measurement for determining a predetermined output based on the measured temperature value. This predetermined output is a value converted from the measured temperature value to the spindle tip or an axial position of a tool. The output may be an abnormal signal derived by comparing the measured temperature value or the converted value. A cooling means 71 of the housing 5 is provided with a cooling control means 82 for performing feed forward control of a cooling force according to the variation of rotation speed of the spindle and control during abnormal time.
