PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device in which temperature increase is prevented by cooling a liquid crystal panel and a polarizing plate with a cooling liquid and which device can be efficiently cooled with a simple structure. SOLUTION: A container is disposed on the optical axis of the light from a light source. The container has an insert port where a liquid crystal panel can be inserted and has a window on each face in the entrance side and exit side for light, with each window covered with a first or second polarizing plate. After the liquid crystal panel is inserted into the container, the insert port is closed and sealed to form a space in the container by the first and second polarizing plates and the aforementioned sealing means. Then a light- transmitting cooling medium is injected into the space to absorb the heat generating in the liquid crystal panel and polarizing plates and to radiate the heat to the outside through the container.
