摘要 PURPOSE: A reflective FFS-LCD(Fringe Field Switching mode Liquid Crystal Display) is provided to obtain the optimum retardation at any waves by forming different cell gaps of an LC layer according to wavelength of beam and using the LC layer as a quarter wave plate, and to improve a contrast ratio by reducing beam leakage in a dark mode. CONSTITUTION: A lower substrate(10) keeps a specific distance from an upper substrate(20). A counter electrode(12) and a pixel electrode(14) are arranged to generate a fringe field in the lower substrate, and a first parallel alignment layer(18) is formed thereon. The first parallel alignment layer has a specific rubbing axis, and the rubbing axis has a specific angle with a substrate transmission line of the fringe field. To obtain the maximum transmission rate, if LC molecules have positive dielectric anisotropy, the rubbing axis has an angle of 45-90 degrees with the substrate transmission line. If the dielectric anisotropy is negative, the angle is 0-45 degrees. A black matrix(22) is arranged in the upper substrate, and RGB(Red,Green,Blue) color filters(24a,24b,24c) are arranged according to each unit pixel. The RGB color filters have different height by considering different wavelength of RGB beam. Thereby, cell gaps, distances(d1,d2,d3) between the upper and lower substrates are different. An LC layer(30) having LC molecules is formed between the upper and lower substrates. The LC layer has positive or negative dielectric anisotropy.
