PURPOSE: A link adaptation method and apparatus of a mobile communication system are provided to reduce an interference to a different sector and increase a forward system capacity by reducing a surplus transmission power, and to effectively use a power by controlling the power by continuously feedbacking a channel state of a forward link and be adaptive to the channel state. CONSTITUTION: A terminal(AT) measures a receiving C/I value for a forward pilot channel(S110), and searches the greatest value of critical values smaller than the measured receiving C/I value from a C/I table and makes it as a reference C/I value(S120). The terminal selects a data transfer rate corresponding to the reference C/I value from the C/I table as a receivable data transfer rate and makes the selected data transfer rate as a DRC symbol of 4 bits(S130). The terminal obtains a value by subtracting the reference C/I value from the receiving C/I value and makes it as a receiving C/I margin(S140). The terminal divides the receiving C/I margin into 16 levels and makes 4 bit C/I margin symbol, codes it like the 4 bit DRC symbol and transmits it to a base station(S150). The base station receives the DRC and the C/I margin system, decodes them, and transmits the decoded DRC to a scheduler of the base station and transmits the decoded C/I margin to a transmission amplifier of the base station(S160). The scheduler of the base station determines a terminal to be assigned a traffic channel of the next channel from the DRC and a data transfer rate of the terminal(S170). In transmitting a level of power to be transmitted to the determined terminal by the transmission amplifier of the station, a value obtained by reducing as much as the received C/I margin from a maximum power is determined as a transmission power level of the forward traffic channel(S180). |
